The Tooth Fairy Story Film Analysis: Animated Adventure with a Sprinkling of Family-Friendly Tween Love Story
In this animated adventure aimed at tweens, the world of fairies is dedicated to gathering teeth from slumbering youngsters and placing gold under their pillows. Board-riding youthful nonconformist fairy Van (brought to life by Booboo Stewart) is less than thrilled about spending his future to collecting baby teeth—a feeling that’s entirely reasonable. He is just a bit more curious about the underlying economics of the situation: the fairies hand over the molars to unseen goblins, who supply gold in exchange. However, Van’s interest is piqued when he catches sight of a goblin (played by Larkin Bell), who turns out to be far from the ugly creature he expected.
An Unlikely Connection and Common Enemy
Everything is prepared for an adventure with a gentle touch of teen romance (though it’s perfectly appropriate for children). The goblin and fairy groups are estranged from each other, and there’s nothing like the thrill of the forbidden to unite beings as one. The two species as seen here are remarkably alike, yet each holds biased views about the opposite side. The fairies are supposed to be self-centered sorts, prone to taking whatever they fancy, while goblins are reportedly dim-witted, smelly, and backward, but are actually bright and advanced in technology.
Naturally, this scenario needs a shared foe to unite against, and this is duly provided in the form of a group of vicious spiders, voiced by Jon Lovitz and Fran Drescher. There’s no beating about the bush about their intentions: they aim to devour the fairies and goblins, and they serve as quite savage, though not particularly skilled, villains.
Target Audience and Overall Impression
There aren’t very many animated films targeting the kind of audience that is beginning to have early romances, but aren’t yet old enough for the content 14-year-olds view these days instead of popular teen sagas. Should your youngster falls into this age group, it probably won’t to become their new favorite movie, but you could do worse.
A Tooth Fairy Tale arrives in Scottish cinemas starting October 10 and the rest of the UK from 24 October.
