Disturbing Footage Captures Moment Officers Suffer Blade Attacks in Ambush
One ranking policeman who rushed to the help of a colleague that was assaulted by a knifeman was granted the Monarch's Honor for Bravery.
Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he placed a weapon to the throat of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the policemen and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a motorist subsequent to a traffic accident in Whalley Range in summer 2023.
Brown knifed and cut both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.
"Policeman stabbed," the constable could be heard saying over his communication device.
Officer-mounted and dashboard camera video made public by the force revealed Brown, that was clothed in black with a hood up, run up to Sgt Foster from behind with a blade pointed forward.
He ran into the officer who stumbled and fell to the pavement, after which Sgt Ansell jumped in and struggled to restrain him to the floor even though being multiple times hit with the blade.
Police Constable Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and sought a safe opportunity, concluding the fight to an end.
Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "Can I get help on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell sustained two lacerations to his neck and additional wounds to his limbs and torso, while Sergeant Foster experienced cut injuries.
The department reported Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to control his partner's blood loss before medical personnel arrived.
The latest award comes subsequent to the trio of policemen were granted departmental Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the regional officer association in early 2024.
They additionally received a Regional Valor Recognition in mid-2024.
"The efforts of all three officers ultimately protected one another and resulted in no civilians endured any harm."
Brown was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in spring 2024, as stated by authorities.
